Business Impact Analysis

Understanding the significance of a Business Impact Analysis (BIA) is crucial for identifying potential impacts of disruptions to critical operations. It fits into business continuity and disaster recovery planning, benefiting stakeholders such as customers, employees, and partners.

A BIA doesn't predict every disaster but focuses on understanding disruption impacts and mitigation. The process includes three phases: preparation, conduct, and analysis. Preparation defines scope and objectives, conduct involves data gathering, and analysis interprets data to identify key findings.

Key BIA deliverables include Maximum Tolerable Period of Disruption (MTPD), Recovery Time Objective (RTO), Recovery Point Objective (RPO), time-critical process dependencies, and single points of failure.

Determining categories of damage, such as financial, reputational, operational, and legal, is essential. Elaborating on potential damage levels helps prepare for varying impacts.

Complementing the BIA with a risk assessment (RA) identifies threats and vulnerabilities, determining tolerable damage levels within specific time spans.

Include various resources in a BIA, such as human, technological, and physical assets. A risk-based action plan outlines steps based on BIA and RA findings.

In the airport context, review impacts on flight operations, passenger safety, and communication systems to ensure resilience and preparedness.
